Teens, Smartphones, and Texting
One of the statistics from the article that may be able to answer the great need that teens experience for a smartphone is the fact that 75% of all teens text. As we have seen texting is a very popular way for teens to communicate. It’s easy to access and fast to employ. Teens of today don’t like to hold long conversations, so these abbreviated modes of communication are perfect for them.
It was interesting to find out that the teens that text the most are the ones that don’t have internet access at home. This makes a lot of sense to me because teens are very much connected to technology and if they don’t have a computer at home, the next best thing is a smartphone.
Again as with any form of communication media, it is important for parents and teens to communicate to make sure that the use of smartphones and texting is being used in a responsible manner.
